How to Write an Essay

Introduction and conclusion
When writing an essay, you want to have an introduction and a conclusion.  In the introduction, you’re going to lay out to the reader what your essay will contain.  The introduction will also have a thesis statement that tells the reader exactly what your position is on the topic you’re writing about. 

In the conclusion, you’re going to recap what you’ve just written about and rephrase your thesis statement.  You do not introduce any new information in the conclusion.  The conclusion is a small reminder to the reader of what you said in your paper. 

Body
The body of your essay lays out your thoughts and ideas regarding the topic you’re writing about.  You support those thoughts and ideas with research or from the novel you’ve read, or any other reading that fits your essay.  Make sure that you don’t plagiarize.  Any idea, word expressed by another person and then used by you in any form is okay as long as you give credit to the other person.  If you don’t give the other person credit, then you’ve plagiarized.
